I didn’t expect unpacking to be the part of moving that would bother me the most. I always assumed the hard work ends once everything is delivered, but a couple of scratches on my dining table changed that idea quickly.
The strange thing is that nothing major got damaged—just small surface marks on furniture I’ve had for years. But those little details make you re-evaluate how everything was handled, even when you know moves are usually messy by nature.
During the planning stage, I remember trying to figure out how other people reduce this kind of risk, but most of the focus always seemed to be on packing speed rather than placement inside the vehicle or how items are stacked. In hindsight, that’s probably where the real difference is made.
Now I find myself looking at furniture more carefully than before, almost overthinking where each piece is placed in a room just to avoid future wear.
For people who’ve moved multiple times, do you think damage is mostly about packing quality, or is it more about handling and loading during the move itself?
